OUR APPROACH

A shared commitment
to our neighbors.

01 /

Love

Love our neighbors in meaningful and sustainable ways.

02 /

Learn

Learn about locally led projects and find ways to get involved.

03 /

Lift

Lift up our neighbors entering, exiting, and evading issues rooted in poverty.

OUR STORY

It started with students
who wanted to help.

What began as a response to an immediate need became a commitment to consistent care.

THE BEGINNING

Helping neighbors after Hurricane Ida.

RGT began with a college student helping a grassroots organization evacuate people living in poverty during and after Hurricane Ida.

A CONSISTENT PRESENCE

Three students pooled what they had.

Three college students then pooled their limited funds to become a consistent point of contact and care for people experiencing homelessness in their city.

THE NEXT GENERATION

Students carried the work forward.

Later generations of high school and college students continued that model, consistently loving, learning, and lifting their neighbors affected by poverty.

Give to our general fund

Two giving trees. One commitment to New Orleans.

STUDENT GIVING TREE

The TU Giving Tree

Sprouting from years of consistent outreach and service to individuals experiencing, exiting, and evading homelessness.

Give monthly to the TU Giving Tree

This fund supports a shared cause led by students at the named institution. It does not raise money for the institution itself.

STUDENT GIVING TREE

The BFHS Giving Tree

Budding from students’ consistent commitment to bring the needs of neighbors experiencing homelessness to their networks through annual sleep outs.

Give monthly to the BFHS Giving Tree

This fund supports a shared cause led by students at the named institution. It does not raise money for the institution itself.

Small, consistent acts of generosity can build lasting local solutions.

Our TU and BFHS student communities are each growing their own giving tree: a fund rooted in monthly generosity that creates dependable support for neighbors experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

As vital services face uncertain funding, these funds help sustain and scale:

  • Emergency and short-term subsidies to help individuals and families secure or maintain housing.
  • Alternative shelter solutions for families facing homelessness.
  • Barrier removal to help neighbors access temporary shelter.
  • Site-based outreach connecting residents of at-risk communities with resources and support.

Each fund is a living legacy of its student community’s commitment—a giving tree that grows through consistent care and keeps giving back to New Orleans.

WHY WE GIVE MONTHLY

Small gifts. Deep roots. Lasting change.

RGT now accepts monthly donations only. We believe small, sustainable acts of generosity—shared across a community and compounded over time—build the kind of change we want to see in the world.

Yes, we’d rather you give $2 a month than $1,000 once. Consistent giving builds a community of care and dependable support our neighbors can count on.

We’re preparing to establish a living endowment, where one-time gifts can be invested to generate ongoing revenue for our initiatives. Until then, if you prefer to make a one-time gift, we encourage you to support one of the highlighted organizations and projects below.

However you give, thank you for helping generosity take root.

SALARIES PAID TO DATE$0Administrative work carried out by volunteers.

OUR COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENCY

Minimum administrative costs.
Maximum output.

To date, RGT has spent $0 on salaries. The people overseeing our administrative tasks have served entirely as volunteers.

We remain open to adapting as the organization’s needs change. If that $0 salary figure changes by even a single cent, we are committed to sharing that change transparently.

OUR ANNUAL GENERAL BUDGET

Supporting today’s outreach.
Making room for more.

RGT’s current annual general budget is approximately $5,000, primarily supporting outreach carried out by college students in New Orleans.

“RGT allowed me lead people who were all focused on the same mission. I learned how to direct enthusiasm from our volunteers and channel it in a way that had the most impact. Making volunteering as ‘frictionless’ as possible is the best way to get people to help others.”

“RGT was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my time at Tulane, and in the greater New Orleans area. To be able to serve each week is both humbling and eye opening. I can confidently say I developed better as a leader and as a citizen to society through my time at RGT.”

“Volunteering with RGT throughout much of my college experience taught me just how powerful it is to be a listening ear. Being surrounded by people who truly valued that skill—and were intentional about using it—only motivated me to keep showing up. That lesson has stayed with me, especially in graduate school, where I often carry that same approach into group projects. Working with RGT was one of the highlights of my college experience, and it’s something I still reflect on and share with friends and in internship interviews today.”
